Perhaps this topic was already covered. If so forgive me. - I don't get to surf much. (Working is fine - it just uses up so much of my free time) Is it possible to "repower" the old life like FA shells with the new drive or is this just fantasy?

Thank you, oh most wise ones...

Welcome aboard, galesburghead, pleased you surfed this far [IMG]

I am not familiar with the LL FA's, but I would think that re-powering would be possible. Others will no doubt tell you! :D

    Welcome aboard!

The old shell and new mech should be interchangable.....not to be sarcastic, but why would you want to? :D

There are slight differences between the FA1 and FA2 bodies. I think the swap would be a no brainer, GO FOR IT! :D Oh yes, it's VERY good to see you post here Bill! WELCOME ABOARD! Now, will you PLEASE post a link to your VERY COOL Galesburg, IL. Web-Site!

Thanks fellas! I guess I just need to close my eyes and spend some money this weekend. I'll post again if it is successful. My pal thought there was a difference in wheelbase. It would be hard to believe that LL would spend the cash to create a new "mold" for the drives, if you will.

You see I have these old Ann Arbor PAs that I love dearly (we Michigan guys really have to cheer anytime a major manufacturer produces a local road). Its just that they never ran that well. So now that the Chinese drives are "out there" I was hoping to give new life to these older beauties. The shells are very important to anyone who likes the Ann Arbor as the decals have never been produced.

I dunno why you are pestering me to post a link to my Galesburg site, its already listed under the links section Mr. Maxwell!

Thank you oh great and knowledgeable ones!

I checked on my F2's. If LL made them correctly, the wheel base is about 2' longer than the F1's. The mechanism fits, but it doesn't look right. Thus I am not going to repower them. The mechanism fits the old Atlas/Roco shells after you remove that part of the headlight lens that extends into the cab. I plan to repower at least 4 of those.
