I like my N Scale Intermountain REA reefers, but now that I am modeling Z Scale, I decided to do a repaint of a Pennzee C&NW reefer, so I can have a Z Scale representation of the car.

I made the decals on my Alps, and just used Floquil Engine Black for the roof and ends, and Tamiya XF-26 Deep Green for the sides and underframe.

I ran out of time, so I will post completed pics after the decal setting solution dries, and I dullcote it tomorrow, but here is the progress so far:

    Great Work Robert!

I see, even with the new promotion to work more hours, you are still able to create items for your railroad in your spare time! Very Awesome!

    Very neat Robert.

Went to my local railfan group's monthly train slide show night (mostly digital now ;-) for the first time in 9 months (since my daughter was born) on Sat. night. One of the guys had a show on MILW rolling stock from 1976 (when he was 14) up through 2006. He had a photo of an old refer that was rebuilt into a MoW bunk car. Pretty neat.

Another interesting rebuild was all the stuff that MILW built using old steam tender frames.

I finished 5 cars today after work. Easy to repaint and decal, the car is 2 pieces, so I painted the sides and underframe dark green, and the roof and ends engine black. Fairly simple application of just 10 decals per car.

It's a car I really like, even more than my NP reefers, because of the color, and you need to remember that this was the UPS of the day, so they were everywhere.

This is a fun shot of the cars behind the station platform:

What great looking cars. Good job Robert! That dark green with the black roofs does look sharp.

In the 1950's, these cars are appropriately pulled by a Mikado, GP7 or GP9. In the late 60's it woudd have been the GP's and mainline by U25C's and SD45's. NP of course. These cars were found all over the US by other railroads too. I still need to build an icing platform.

This goes under the "5 minute modeler" heading, as I was looking for something else late Sunday, and found the N Scale car in a box, and thought, how easy. So I took an Armor reefer car, a Wilson reefer, and 3 C&NW reefers, and quickly repainted them.

The whole process took about 3 hours, with most of the tipe spent drawing up the decals and laser scribing them.
