here are some former ROCK cars "repainted to SP let me know what you think guys ROCK 99523 repainted to SP ROCK 300487 repainted to SP
Wouldn't you want to cover the small Rock on the far left corner with a black block and the letters "SP"placed over? (Boxcar) Jus saying that is what I've seen in many cases Other than that it looks good
i based my decision on how SP repainted DRGW and SSW racks both of which walthers has made (the DRGW was the 2nd car in the 2-pack for the new bi-levels) both of which still had their original reporting marks and the only thing saying anything about SP was the speed lettering on the top thus i stuck with that... plus ive seen both in real life and we left regular markings so i did too
I'd just patch over previous roads, or do it to a minimum like the CNW did with the ROCK cars, they just patched out the reporting marks and sometimes put a CNW logo to the right of the big R.
this i considered when i first came up with the modern SP empire and i fully intended to do this but then i found it difficult to come up with unused SP road numbers to use and so it was easier to leave the old marks the only series i found that was free for use was the 700000 series and im saving that for modern SP cars such as trinities and bethgons Plus UP left the old marks so im assuming theres a good reason why they did that and i look to how UP does some thing for guidance on how my company should go
In the real world of course, not many of these would actually have been patched anyway yes? The Rock Island cars would be running around in their completely original paint at least for a number of years after merger. You can still find C&NW, BN, Northern Pacific, etc cars. Though usually of the lower priority service variety.
My only question is, wasn't the reporting marks for Rock Island CRIP not ROCK? Other than that, it if fully credible to me.
No, after one of their last reorganizations, "ROCK" was an official reporting mark. Here's a link to a photo of a Rock boxcar: 1139-18 Eastbound Rock Island transfer at BN/MILW Hoffman Ave
Thanks! before the days they called tehmselves The ROCK their reporting marks were RI (at least they were for a while before the name change) and afterwards they were ROCK both of these cars are intended to represent cars that had been painted Blue and changed to ROCK marks
wrong??? check the walthers ROCK rack and you will notice the reporting marks obviously say ROCK not RI and check athearn's old 50' FMC boxcars and you will also see ROCK
fine....CRIP marks were arround for 100 years...IF you want to use ROCK marks, have fun and letter one up as ACDC:tb-biggrin:
