With building/rebuilding layouts being a hot topic, I was wondering who else has recycled old stuff. My little roundy round is all recycled. The styrofoam base was a trash find, and the track is Atlas C80 off my first layout. I saved a mountain top from my first layout that is now a free standing piece that I move around the background in various pictures, seen here inside the circle. [IMG]
The station and garage (as well as other buildings) are from my first layout also.

I recently dismantled a layout in order to move from Phildalephia to Houston. I saved all of the buildings, scenic details, and trees. I packed them all up in boxes with packing peanuts, etc, and they all survived the trip nicely. Some of them will be re-used on the home layout I plan to start in a few months. More of them would be used, except I decided to switch from HO to S scale....

Both you guys are what we used to call "scroungers" or "procurers" in the Marines! Guys after my own heart! My Dad and I "just happened to find" enough stuff to make our first layout in 1933 for a Lionel train. We saved the Grand Titon Mountains, and the Royal Gorge along with the swinging bridge, when we moved from Wichita, Kansas to Abilene, Texas in 1945.

Dad started in HO in 1935 and I converted in 1937, but we simply changed the track and kept the original layout until we moved.

The mountains were used again down here in Texas on our next layout an HO one only smaller.

I have often re-cycled layout parts as well as engine and car parts to this day! That comes from growing up during the Depression. :D
