My N scale layout has staging areas and helices that are hard to see. It also has a dedicated computer system, and I'm thinking about installing several small, cheap video cameras here and there. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, though. I realize the areas will have to be lit; they already are, actually. I think what I'm looking for are inexpensive, small-sized security cameras that enable the user to select one of several available views on-screen... but they would have to provide sufficient resolution to enable me to identify which train is in view (and whether it's still on the track or at least whether it's moving). These things seem to be going for very little money on eBay, but I have no idea what to look for. Recommendations welcome! --Bryan
Bryan, Do you guys have Fry's Electronics in VA? They usually have a good selection of cameras and decent prices. I would pick one up there and see if it meets your needs. I was planning something similar for my layout before we decided to move. A similar topic came up before, and someone recommended one of the microphone equipped cameras so you could hear the locomotives as they go past.
