Can someone tell me what color the Reading RR (I think the name was actually the Philadelphia & Reading at first) steam locomotives were? I'm detailing and painting one for a friend, and need to know. Were they just black, like most steam locos? Or, were they drak green, like the Pennsy? Or maybe some other color? Please let me know if you can. If someone has color pics, that would be even better. I've been on the "GodfatherRails" site, but can't tell if the locs were black or not. IMO, they look black, but I would like a second opinion. Thanks, Jonathan Vincent

Jonathan, I assume the color would depend on which locomotive and what time period you were modeling. Also, color presentation of website photos relies on how your computer graphics card and monitor were manufactured and configured.

IIRC, RDG 2102 appeared dark green when I saw her 50 years ago in Reading during an Iron Horse Ramble. Though at my age the second thing to go was my memory. [IMG]

I won't ask what the first thing to go was! Thanks for the info. I don't doubt that they may have been green, since the diesels in later years were. Obviously not the same green, since the diesels were pretty bright. So, do you think the green that Pennsy used (Brunswick green) would be about right?

Jonathan, I wouldn't have a clue, sorry. I remember 2102 as being very dark, almost black.

I'm the type of modeler who believes if it looks right to me, go with it. Besides, once you've weathered the engine, who can tell what color it was when it was new.
