From 11/14/1987 at Irondale, AL, location of NS's large Norris Yard and at the time, their fantrip steam shop.
Today's NS 28X heads east at Wyo JCT, approaching Reading, PA. Three big units, 2 AC44C6Ms and an ES44AC, pull a consist of domestic boxes, sea cans, and even a few spine cars with trailers.
NS chose the TAG for its final Heritage Unit just out. A fine choice. The TAG was purchased by the SOU in the early 1970s; most of it is gone today. [Not my photo]
Sander appears to be workin real good on 8257. SD40T-2, on a west train in the hole at Ansel. Near Rosamond CA.
NS had some kind of social media one-more-heritage-unit contest. The choices were all good: Tennessee, Alabama, & Georgia Atlantic & East Carolina Pittsburgh & West Virginia Delaware & Hudson
That shot stumped me for quite some time because I didn't recognize the paint scheme at all. Then I figured you might have sought to find some on NS's list of heritage potentials and saw the A&EC. I'm thinking that must be a pretty rare shot, color and of a small railroad. Very cool. Love that wagontop boxcar too.
Congratulations on a fine bit of sleuthing. Did knowing the location was NC help? Indeed, I saw the list of candidates for an NS heritage unit and was curious as to what an A&EC loco might look like. I also found this photo of an A&EC boxcar. Note the Tobacco Belt Route herald.
Funny how we always think of SWs as being small but look at that guy sitting in there. HE looks relatively small. Doug
