June 3, 2010, New Mexico Rail Runner @ Los Lunas, New Mexico. Second image was posted to show the cool ATSF depot. Do not know when it was built. Enjoy, Carl
2006 is surprising, long after Santa Fe lost its identity to BNSF. Was this a locally sponsored and funded project?
Here is an image I took in June 2011. Probably more images, of this corner, are in personal photo collections than we can guess. There may be someone not familiar with this area, it is the Durango / Silverton narrow gauge. Train is headed north towards Silverton, Colorado. Animas river in the bottom of the gorge. The fireman was doing a pretty good job at the time. Hope you enjoy, Carl Here is the power "on the point". Good looking ole gal!
I really need to get back and ride that train again. I believe it was in the 1970s back when it was still Rio Grande when I last rode it.
Hank, I think I can answer your question, but would ask anybody that knows to correct me. I believe the Rail Runner project was a favorite of Governor Bill Richardson and I think that it was / is a state funded operation ? I may have governors mixed up. Carl
I think that's right Carl -- it was set up under Gov. Richardson. One of my brothers lives in NM and he keeps me posted. I kinda wondered about the thing when it was announced, as NM ranks 45th in U.S. population density. It's been an expensive project, with about $400 Million spent and fares earning just $2-1/2 Million annually.
Another tower picture, this one of the PRR's CORK Tower in Lancaster, PA taken in 1995. It was closed in 2013 and still stands I think. Built in 1929, the PRR named it CORK because of the large Armstrong Cork plant that was nearby.
I've always enjoyed looking at outside frame steamers, all that monkey motion unencumbered by wheels trying to steal the spotlight...
Found a few interesting pics recently. Burlington Northern 9501 Rio Grande caboose 01416, Sedalia, CO. Waiting to go home, for repairs. Leaning to one side, bad! Severe bolster rot. Gotta find that photo!
