Just woke up and checked in and got one heck of a wake-up call! My eyes are still stinging... Nice catch!
I see these often on stacks from Asia, but rarely doubled like this. There's a white variant with pink lettering too. Here's a group of fresh hoppers at the Minot CP yard.
I really like these. They're eye-catching and are rapidly appearing everywhere. Ocean Network Express (ONE) is the result of a 2017/2018 merger of K Line, NYK and Mitsui O.S.K., who pulled their assets together to survive an excess global maritime shipping capacity problem that led to weakened carriers and Hanjin's bankruptcy. They chose magenta to reflect the cultural legacy of Japanese cherry blossoms, just a perfect choice.
C'Mon, I loved it when my Triumph TR-3 Lucas distributor loaded with slush splashed from the tires. I guess they never had snow/slush in the UK, LOL
OOh, winter railroading ain't for sissies! Speaking of winter, Northern ND has been schwacked with a polar vortex that just won't leave. Temps in the -20s, daytime highs that barely go to ten below, with wind chills exceeding -50. So what do I do, like a complete mental case? Go railfanning in the extreme cold! Friday morning I had a day off, so I went to the Minot old GN yard to wait for Amtrak and get the first light glint shot. Amtrak's late on account of the bitter cold, but I didn't walk away empty handed. Here's an S train that was waiting to get lights into Gavin yard, a few miles east, holding the main along the old yard. The Tier 4 GEs smoke like a steam engine in this cold. 3 grain trains at the old yard, one holding the main waiting to get into Gavin Yard. 3814 was crewless, but high idle and condensing exhaust FTW! The old GN yard footbridge at sunrise. The wind chill up here was a balmy -40!
