    "Stacked at Rocky"
Eastbound coal loads behind a pair of premerger partners ease downgrade at Rocky Siding as the Rocky Local waits on the Rocky Flats Branch. The coal load's DPUs can be spotted deep in the train near Little Ten curve in the distance. May 2004.

I was looking at Google Earth, to see more of this location. It seems a bit isolated from an industrial or shipping center. There must have been something more to that site or area, at one time?

Not quite sure where to look, but it would be interesting to see an aerial view of this site.

    Just west of Arvada, CO.

The branch as I understand, has a short 8% grade.

No, there really wasn't anything there. I think the land was REALLY cheap. It's really out in the woods. I could watch moose and black bear strolling past my office window. There was an American thread company there but it wasn't a huge industry.

Stepped away this morning from Kodak Plus-X film in the '70s posts and caught local CSX F769 at the Amtrak station in Columbia, SC. Skies are drizzly from Tropical Storm Zeta.

Okay, back to the summer of 1976 at Princeton Jct., NJ where a GG-1 is on the move with Amtrak varnish. To the left is the branch to Princeton, known as the PJ&B or Princeton Junction & Back. :) The second shot finds a vintage PRR MP-54 at the end of the ~ 2-1/2 Mile branch at Princeton. I remember entering the lead car to look it over and finding the Motorman and Conductor fast asleep during their layover.

Here's some more modern equipment at the Princeton station:

While the branch line was known as the PJ&B, the train itself was referred to as the "Dinky".
For some time there has been an ongoing effort to replace the train with shuttle bus service.
A group in opposition to that move was formed to "Save the Dinky". https://savethedinky.org/

A few years ago, the university wanted the land (in the foreground of the above photo) to use as the location for a new arts center.
As a result, the tracks were cut back by several hundred feet and a new station was built.
The old station building survived and became a restaurant.

    This is the new station:

Stopped by these guys. About 20 or so, standing in the middle of the road.

And finally, a quick look at traffic, on I-25 North. Was backed up for MILES!! It was ugly!! 3 1/2 hours to get there, about 6 hours to get home!

And for fun, here's the loaded train I was waiting on, while freezing my hands and face!
Again, NO ditch lights at the time of video. But, were back on a short time later, when
we passed the train again. Heard, but couldn't see! With snow starting to fly...
