Running west in the siding at Woodford, a crummy follows a box car and the helpers. In the Tehachapi's. 1986
I can only suspect that the tank car was either pressed into service before painting or was on it's way for final paint. I described this spur in a previous thread (Loram grinder) and believe that it is used for storage off the NS main in Dayton, OH. In the distant past, it was an important and much longer spur. When the photo was taken, the NS thru Dayton was heavily trafficked (much of it coming from the former GM Moraine Truck & Bus Group) and this was a way to save on classification yard track usage (this spur is off the small Findlay St yard). The GM plant has been repurposed and no longer cranks out SUVs... and a mere fraction of rail traffic.
Saw this, at Broomfield this morning. Still parked about 3 1/2 hours later! Long string of 3 bay covered hoppers. Don't know if dead on clock, or waiting for opposing movement, eventually!
Not sure if dead on clock, or waiting for meet. Couldn’t tell if loaded or not. Didn’t want to check, since I was hitting the early stages of rush hour traffic. Getting colder, as weather was starting to move in! Bad enough, as I passed a 3 car accident a few miles north, on my way home! Must have occurred a few minutes before I arrived. No emergency vehicles on site yet. Was just glad to get home!
