ABC News is covering various aspects of homeland securty this week. Today they examined the shipping industry and containers. Tomorrow, railroads will be their subject. Should be interesting to see what aspects they cover. They usually have these types of pieces about half way through the newscast. This is not an endorsement for ABC News or Peter Jennings Eric
I'll second that request. We don't see this sort of news, but it's useful to know if/when we visit for railfanning trips!
Actually, we don't get the objective News here either. Yeah! I know... put a Cherry Bomb in a hornets nest with that one. Only 'cause it's true... Doh! Gotta go! I hear the P.C. Cops coming! [ 08. September 2004, 20:25: Message edited by: Sir_Prize ]
Colonel: I think the point of the security issue is that the place is so big that total security is not possible. Australia would have the same problem. I am in LAX right now. That container terminal at the LAX/Long Beach port would be practically impossible to secure. I certainly don't know the answer. I think that hassling railfans who are a possible asset is not the answer. I haven't seen the show.
Here is a link to the story. Couldn't play the video of it though - ABC wants you to subscribe now to watch their news stories. ABC Trains and Terror Story
I saw that story on ABC last night. I couldn't help but wonder who Peter Jennings is really working for. It seemed to me he was giving away a lot of ideas that potential terrorists or other idiots could use against us. It was like he was saying, "Ok, guys, here are some target ideas for you."
Peirce, I didn't see the show, but agree with your assessment. Sometimes I think the press is a subversive element. They certainly don't report the "News" any more, it's a selective doling of what they want us peons to hear or see, a branch of show business. What have you heard of the slaughter in Darfur? How about the hurricane damage in the islands to the east of Florida? Viet Nam war records and sensational trials are FAR more important than that stuff. Sorry, I just had to do that.
That has always been true within the USA Media because we thrive on "Open Access" to everything. I'm not knocking our Media by any means, it's just how we in the USA treat what others would see as "sensitive" information.
You are quite right, Fitz. What is going on now is shameful control by big money interests who are makine millions every day by trying to control every aspect of our life. It almost makes me hesitate to admit I was ever in that business myself at one time. I don't believe there is a true journalist working today. None of those claiming to be journalists know the difference between reporting and editorializing.
