I know there's a short line railroad with some GP's that carry the black & yellow to this day. What's that darn road? Serious (working night shift) brainfart. Thanks!

If only those units had a high short hood. I'd almost believe I was a small boy again.

You and me both! Still a nice paint scheme and proves it's timeless. Now if that SD45 would get this treatment soon!! :teeth: *cough cough*

Hey that road is about 20 miles away. I can go get pictures if anyone would like. Operates from North Branch MN to Hinkley MN.

Here is the heart of the line. The SCXY corporate headquarters and the reason the line still exists, Horizon Milling, a durum flour mill. This used to be the Amber Mill (the namesake of the line when BN ran it, this was the BN Amber Subdivision). The SCXY interchanges with the BNSF via the Hinckley Local in Hinckley, MN in the middle of the BNSF Hinckley Subdivision.
Other customers on the line include Lakes Gas, Zinpro, and The Peterson Mill in North Branch.

Here is an interesting shot I shot in Pine City, where the line crosses the snake river. The bridge was down for a while for repairs a couple of years ago. I was shooting shots. The poor conductor had to ride on the rear of the train in the middle of winter (I was walking on water when I shot the photo). But you get to see an interesting load for the line...

It's absolutely wonderful seeing those engine colors and the Monad. Not to mention that depot in appropriate colors. WOW. Memories! Time machine, where are you?

I did have an SD40-2 in that scheme, it was one of the last custom paint jobs I bought. I was so disgusted with how it looked I decided I could do better and taught myself to paint. That's also why I never put a picture of it on the blog. I am working on the SCXY GPs right now as well as an ex-IAIS GP38 for the line (notice how similar the colors are?)

This spring I will be doing more Skally Line layout work and adding some more 6 axle power to the line.

There is a preserved ex-NP SD45. It is ex-NP 3617 and is at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.

I believe a couple of other NP SD45s were rebuilt to something like an "SD40-3" configuration and went to KCS?

Hi. I am new to the group and have been waiting for something I could help with for my first reply and looks like this is it.

You are correct, ex-NP SD45's 3605 and 3620 (later BN 6405 and 6420) went to the KCS as the 615 and 616 and were later renumbered to KCS 3114 and KCS 3118. Last I heard both were in storage. These three are the last ex-NP SD45's of the original 30 left.

I am hoping to see the NP 3617 this summer when I head to Carlton, MN for the NP convention.

    Brian-

Welcome to TrainBoard! Glad to know my memory on this was accurate. I was unsure if I'd recalled correctly.

"NP 3617" should be painted by mid-summer. It only needs a new computer to run. When donated, CN removed it. Water pumps are replaced, various little items such as all the original side windows replaced, (they were removed and plated over awhile back), marker lights on the nose, and of course, the red "Mars light" is in place. :teeth:
