you might want to check www.rr-fallenflags.org under C&O or another road that may have had ferries. also try www.railroadforums.com. not really sure if they have tugs or barges there. i think theres a page on fallen flags for the new york cross harbor they have barges. tom
Kurt, I am a life long Rail/Marine fan that is designing a layout based on the Milwaukee Road's Seattle operations, including their Puget Sound Barge operation's. This link will take you to a site that should interest you. Just click on "Puget Sound Barges" in the index. web pageMilwaukee Road Coast Division There is also a Yahoo Group, RailMarineOps They have lots of photos and information, are very helpful, but most members are east coast operations oriented. Wow, thanks guy's! One day I want to model the Seattle & North Coast RR in Z-scale, both Seattle and Port Towsend to Port Angeles!
Kurt, If you like the SNC, take a look this: Rrailroad Forums.com There are several other SNC photos there. Tom
Kurt, If you do the S&NC in Z scale let me know who does your decals. I want to paint up the F units in N scale but no one will do the decals. I am willing to $$$ to have them done as long as it is resonable.
Decals in many scales have been talked about... You might check here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/snct :teeth: Boxcab E50
I have HO versions of both the F-units and green boxcars, just need someone to shrink em!! They were made by Herald King decals before they went out of bussinness.
Here is an interesting barge operation. Ed M. brought it up in his Railfanning Mexico thread. The CG Railway (CGR) barge crosses the Gulf of Mexico from Mobile, Alabama to Coatzacoalcos (port) and on to Mexico City. There are two ships. Each has a single level of cars and 7-8 tracks across. The car bay is open. The ships make 12-14 knots, hold 115 railcars, bow thrusters, 585 overall length, 117 feet beam. Pretty nice size model to scratch build. I gleaned this information from a Power Point presentation at the CGR website. You can download the PPT presentation at the lower right side of the previous url. If I knew how t get the pictures out of the PPT, I would post them here.
Does anyone have a pic of the Milwaukee Road tugboat that was used on and around Puget Sound up until the fifties? I have only seen one pic and I need more for a future model.
Actually, the new ships are double decked. In the main photo in the center of the railroad's website home page you can see both decks, even though they just have cars on the bottom deck. Interestingly enough, we were down in Coatzacoalcos this weekend. First time I had been there. I had some hopes of being able to get a shot of the barge in port but no such luck. The whole port area (which is extensive) has a very high wall around the entire area, with no peep holes anywhere. I did run into an old watchman at the Ferrosur yards who had a bunch of photos taken during the recent construction of the ramp system to load the new double deck ships. Not great photos, but interesting nevertheless. He also had a couple of grab shots of the barge. Regards Ed
