This last Tunnel (above) I think is #78 but the next Tunnel I know for sure is #73 (coming later in the story) but I filmed several between those two points but didn't catch all of them so I can't be 100% sure this was #78.
I'm assuming the concrete structures in pictures #2 and #3 are some sort of rock slide protection, based on seeing the bare rock above them. Did they count as numbered tunnels? Ed
Tunnels/Structures between #79 and #73 The #2 & #3 images above are of the same structure from different angles. Sadly between Tunnel #79 and #73 I didn't catch the Tunnel signs or any KP signs as things just came to fast even with the video camera going. So, I'm just assuming it count's as a Tunnel and would be either #75 or #74 based on what I videotaped between #79 and #73. Given that I did catch #79, then the below are the tunnel shots taken before #73 was reached: - Would be Tunnel #78 or less (But before #73) - Would be Tunnel #77 or less (But before #73) - Would be Tunnel #76 or less (But before #73) Making the below potentially Tunnel #75 or #74. This is the same structure just before our coach passed into it and the other two images were taken by Lisa just after we exited it.
Very cool! More tunnels! Did the tour director call out tunnels, and other scenic interest items? When I took the CZ from Denver-Sacramento, a CA State RR Museum guide entrained at Truckee, CA, and gave us a detailed history, trivia, and mile-for-mile scenic highlight tour of Donner Pass all the way to Sacramento.
No but he did supply a Tour Guide that includes a full page about the section we would travel which highlights certain points by Km Post. We also had a book on the area so we knew which side of the train would be the best views in advance. Since I spent most of the time on the platform between cars I was bouncing from side to side trying to catch as much as possible on the video camera. I wanted to catch all the Trestles and Tunnels but there are so many and they come at you so quickly it just could not be done but WOW, what a trip!!!!!!! More images coming shortly... :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Thanks Again!!!!!!! Do you have any Km Post information that reference where along the route this is or for the Tunnels / Trestles so we can get things documented as tightly as possible for future trips to know where what is along the route?
Don Julio Ornelas - km 722 Tunnel 69 - km 721+152 (km 721 plus 152 meters) Tunnel 70 - km 721+353 Your trestle is "Puente Galindro" at km 719+580. Let me know the others that you want the km on. Ed
I know this is a lot to ask; but, it would be great to know the Km Post of each Tunnel, Trestle, and Village along the route I took. I think this would add value of this topic for anyone that might want to take this trip in the future and will know when/where each of these features happen. :shade: :shade: :shade: :shade:
How about I just pm you each week with enough km info to get you through the next week's worth of posts so that I don't have to type all this stuff in at one swipe? That's a lot of tunnels............. Ed
HUGE THANKS!!!!!!! The references I have a far and few between so anything you can give me now and then would be a huge benefit.
Tunnels keep coming way to fast to catch them all It might be worth mentioning that in this particular stretch, we have 15 tunnels within a distance of 5-1/2 km, or 3-1/4 miles. Regards Ed
