The Lima is okay, it's pretty much the right size and shape, but has typically Lima moulded grilles, chassis lump for weight, poor drive etc, the upcoming Hornby one is properly see-through in all the right places and will come with a decent chassis as well. [IMG] The price of Lima ones should plummet now the Hornby is imminent.

Has some pre-production shots of the Hornby one, looks hand painted on those, so the production should have a better finish than their pics. [IMG] The only thing I don't like is the prisming in the side windows, but that's a small thing...

The EWS bogie hoppers are done by Bachmann, quite a nice model, they do a good class 66 to match. They are also doing the Freightliner ones as well. Lima did the iron ore tipplers, but they may be hard to find in quantity, maybe Hornby will re-release them. [IMG]

Just bought a Lima one in EWS to keep me going until the Hornby is ready ;) Also got a couple of the large EWS hoppers to see how they look. [IMG]

No, I will NOT change to OO scale! Just a few items for display ;)

ok so whats the difference between HO and OO. Is it the scale VS gauge thing like G scalers deal with?

I take it oo is one of those oddball scales since the track gauge seem to be all wrong?

OK I don't get it. It is 1:76.4 or some such thing. HO is 1:87 So is the relationship between gauge and scale the same for both scales or is oo gauge different from a proto type view?

The UK runs on standard gauge, so the track gauge in OO scale is incorrect, it shares HO track for compatibility with the rest of the world.

A big chunk of why we have a large finescale movement over here is because folk handbuild track to correct the gauge to the correct size for the scale. If you see references to EM, S4 and P4, those are 1:76 with the correct track gauge.

OO scale is a fudge, but it's an increasingly popular fudge :D
