Ogden Union Station You know I have spent many hours at Ogden Union Station, but I have not been down there is about 3 years now. I know the outside displays have changed as they did a rebuild of that area last year I think. This KCC Caboose was cut in half from end to end and moved in through the doors in the hall way next to it, they removed the windows above the door and brought it in half at a time, then welded it back together and fixed it up as you see it now. If you look close you can see the patches down the middle of it. Same Caboose before it was cut in half and moved inside the station. I have posted some more photos from there in an Album: http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php?cat=2062 Brings back some memories of happier days.....
Thank you for sharing Jolly! When I came across the caboose I had wondered how they managed to get it inside. Ben
With rail activity increasing around Moab I figured that I would head over the border and take a few pictures. Here is a video from a news website of what is taking place. ksl.com - Uranium on its way out of Moab Ben
UP 6663 & 6339 sitting at Crescent Junction, UT. MOW equipment being loaded up at Crescent Junction. Ben
They have been busy replacing ties along the Moab line as you can see in the picture below. And it was a little windy too! Ben
I chased a UP mixed freight train to from Grand Junction, CO to Westwater, UT. The beginning of the chase can be seen here. Ben
A Velocipede!!!! Cool! Sounds like this museum is set up so you can learn from the displays by playing with them. Cool!
You know that you are walking in to a great museum when the train out front has a sign on it stating "Play with care." Ben
This train was running with 7 locos on the point, and one following on the rear, This is at Cornish Utah just south of the Idaho board on the Ogdn Sub. This picture is now my nes desk top: enjoy
More Videos One for my favorite subjects to shoot is the Acid Train, here we see an empty train headed Southbound at Willard on the UP Ogden Sub. I happened to get Friday off so I decided to try railfanning in Moab, UT. I had hoped to catch the weekly Potash local but it must have been rescheduled due to MOW work east of Thompson Springs, UT. Sign off of US 6 for Elba siding. UP work train east of Thompson Springs. Ben
Here is the mill tailings unloading site at Crescent Junction, UT. Here is where they load the containers in front of the north portal to Bootlegger Tunnel above Moab. Ben
I caught this flat car in Thompson Springs, UT. A little further down the street and I caught these ties being loaded. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow of the area around Potash, UT. Ben
Oops, I forgot about this thread! Thanks for the reminder Ben! Looks like there was alot of activity out there. When we went by on the freeway, there wasn't much train action, since MOW was all over the place between Thompson Springs and Green River. I did happen to catch Amtrak just after the freeway crosses the tracks. (sorry these pics are not the best, hard to take pics when driving on the freeway!) And pretty much on the heels of Amtrak was this UP business train (?) Don't know what they were doing out there, but it sure was a surprise to me! (hence the blurry photo) There was quite a few hoppers sitting at Crescent Jct. but we were upon them too fast to get pictures. Anyway, great pics Ben! Mike
Thanks Mike! It looks like you did catch a train or two while you were on vacation. BTW - You have some great shots especially when taken at 75 mph. Ben
Along the highway to Potash I came across a trail that takes you up to this cut that is on the south side of the Bootlegger Tunnel portal. I wish that I had a train in the shots... A different angle. Here we are looking west of the cut. Just below the cut at the trail head we came across this sign. Ben
Moving along down the highway we knew that we were getting close when we saw the Potash sign at track side. A look at some covered hoppers as we approach the mine. Ben
