If any one is planning to rail fan the Fraser Canyon in the 2001 year (or even now..lol), email me and I will give you many tips and hints for a positive experience. My son and I have railfanned it many times and know the area quite well. This includes places to eat, sleep, and be merry.

Fraser Canyon has lots of CP and CN right?
Do you know if BCRail runs anything around there?
One of my lifetime goals is to railfan BCRail in British Columbia. Such beautiful scenery, and beautiful trains [IMG] Do you know much about BCR and do you have any railfanning stories? I'd love to learn about that territory, sicne someday, I'll head on up that way.
    talk soon..

You've lucked out, my son and I rail fan the BC Rail system a lot. As a matter of fact, we are going to the North Vancouver Station tonight (the bottom of the BC Rail run - furthest south) to compare our newly purchases HO RDC 2 of BC Rail for comparison.

My son posts here and I noticed he is a moderator of the CP Rail section of this forum. He posts as BCRKing or something like that; I try to stay seperated to give him independence (lol). He is actually the expert on BC Rail. He volunteers on the Royal Hudson excursion (except it won't be the Royal Hudson excursion for a couple of years now - waiting for 1.5 million to repair its boiler). He is the only volunteer on the Steam excursion train of BC Rail's (Royal Hudson).

In fact, next Saturday and every weekend up till Christmas he will be volunteering on the "Jingle Bell Express" which is what they call the steam excursion during the holiday season. Instead of the Royal Hudson, they will be using the 3716 Consolidation, built in 1912. He and I actually prefer it over the Hudson, but we love the Hudson as well. The Hudson was built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1944; the Consolidation (also by MLW) much earlier as I have stated.

We railfan by car and also by the "Cariboo Prospector", the passenger service offered by BC Rail. This is what we will see tonight, if it isn't to late - it is now 6:54 and it is running 45 min late so will be arriving at 10:45 tonight.

Don't get me wrong, BC Rail is great, but if you come up here, also spend some time in the Fraser Canyon - you won't regret it. We plan to camp out in a tent in the snow in the canyon just so we can see the trains running through in snowy conditions. Our favourite area is by the Cisco bridges, beside the Siska Nations land. We run into people from all over the world in this area railfanning. The last chap we met was from Autralia - railfanning across North America. We drove around with him, showed him some great spots, and took him to our favourite diner - the CP restaurant at North Bend in the canyon. Our favourite meal is the CP omellette - enough food to keep you going all day. This area is also a Division point crew change area for both CN and CP.
