    WOW! Outstanding choices for this week! A roller coaster ride for BNSF. Love the snow scene, and those seasonal colors, too! The kitchen car has me wishing I could see it first hand.

    The Ft. Collins shot-from what I am told-the tracks were originally embedded with the street but BNSF decided to unearth the tracks from the road and opened up the track-bed.

    Looks like some heavy duty use of those rails, so I'd believe opening up that roadbed would greatly ease maintenance. And if the ties were or still are wooden, they should last longer being open to air, rather than buried where moisture could be held all around them.

    Here's the same stretch of track, from the opposite side of the street.

    Used to be a turnout by the curb, seen lower left. Used to be part of a wye that
    was once located here. What was left of that track was removed a good 2 years
    ago, or longer. Google it, and you might still see where the original grade was.
