There are LOTS of great railfanning shots from this last week. It seems that the weather has been cooperating, people have been getting out, steam excursions have been running, and people have been hitting rail museums and sites. Photoflash starts us out with this Milwaukee Road Skytop: THarms77's signals: And THarms77's bridge shot: E&NRailway's shot of a BCRail survivor:
Those look great. I guess I'm going to have to start adding the pics I got recently headed through the Central Valley in CA
We have several great photographers posting on this board. This last week, we had two that posted a large number of great railfan photos, HemiAdda2d and Bravogjt. I would like to showcase each in his own post this week, and encourage everyone to go look at their recent photos. Hemi went on a trip chasing down Milwaukee Road ghosts through Montana. What could be more ghostly than an abandoned tunnel in the wilderness: Hemi caught this California Zephyr observation car in Marias Pass: No trip through Montana would be complete for any self-respecting railfan without at least a few shots of Montana Rail Link: Hemi shows us why Montana is a great place to railfan:
Bravogjt has apparently been on a trip, too. A semaphore signal creaks into place: And what is this? Black Hills Central RR #110!!: Water towers, caught by bravogjt:
A few more... Kit brings us this aging and weathered passenger car: R_i_straw's GG-1 shot: William Cowie found a load that we don't often see in prototype:
Some great shots for sure! I like that old passenger car Kit photo'd. Looks like you could sneeze and it would fall down!
What a set! Ben sure made some travels, too! Thanks, SD74, I'm honored! The first shot is high up on Milwaukee Road's Pipestone Pass, Blacktail Tunnel #1 (AKA Tunnel 12). If one listens close, you can almost hear a pair of Little Joes, deep in regenerative braking, bringing a heavy Thunderhawk downgrade... Silver Solarium was found in Whitefish, MT, just east of the ornate depot. Word on the radio was that it was headed east that same day, but Alaska GP 49 and I never saw it on the move. MRL 330 was in Garrison, MT, and with the Mullan Pass shutdown, apparently not all traffic was stopped. Cut Bank creek trestle is a staple of Hi-Line railfans. It's always spectacular!
Great work photographers! This forum just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for running it, Adam. :tb-biggrin:
Thank you for highlighting some of my pictures! It is always an honor to have my pictures posted along with all of the great pictures that our members have taken. When we began planning our trip I found this site very useful in helping to locate steam engines along the way. In all we traveled over 4,400 miles and I still have pictures waiting to be resized and uploaded. Ben
Darren, The picture was taken on US64 just west of the tracks and siding between Colfax and Cimarron, NM. US 64 comes from Raton, NM. I'm out here in New Mexico at the Philmont Training Center for the Boy Scouts. I've also got pictures of this car and the box car that you might be able to see in the lower right corner that I took 3 years ago when I was here then. The box car has collapsed since I was out here last.
I wonder where those M1 tanks were going? Its been a while since I've seen them in Green. Always in Desert Camo.
