Is that BNSF really fire damaged? If so, quite extensive!

Sure looks like it, the way the paint forward of the replaced panels appears.

Wow... that BNSF unit really looks scorched!:uhoh:

Noticed on that NZ loco's nose - an ad for a newspaper? Interesting.

I guess it is sort of like naming rights on sports stadiums. When you are trying to keep a tourist railroad going, you find all kinds of ways to pay the bills. Those Class DJ locomotives were built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries but with Caterpillar diesel prime movers. They had B-B-B trucks to spread the load out.

I also noticed that, but the burned (?) BNSF unit distracted me. If an actual ad, it is very low keyed. Nothing flamboyant about that, to grab attention.

About the BNSF unit, it is probably fire damaged. By the location, it would either be from a built up oil and soot fire from the exhaust stack area or from a blown power assembly. I couldn't get to the other side of it, which would have indicated which was most likely. Damage to both sides would be exhaust and to just the one side would be the power assembly.

I didn't think Uncle Pete had many GP's left, neat!
