are these trucks on rails always called hi-rail or they have different offical names?

also I'm just guessing but these would require both a normal truck license and knowledge about railroad laws altogether right? (excluding the truck license for rail pickups of course too)

    thanks ;)

    An interesting first post! [IMG]

I don't believe that I have ever heard these called other than hi-rail. Seems to me that there is a brand of equipment named "Hy-Rail?" Perhaps was the source of the nickname?

Yes. Any of these used on public roadways must carry an appropriate vehicle license, insurances, safety appliances, etc. And the operator must also have the required operators license.

When operated on rails, whether owned by the railroad itself, or a contracted private company, the equipment is safety inspected. And the person running the equipment must be trained and certified by that specific railroad.

    Hope this helps a little.

First, and most important, welcome to Trainboard. Feel free to browse all the fora on this board. You are sure to find them interesting and fun. By-the-way, don't let the password requirement for the "Cattle Car" throw you. This is our off-topic forum, where we can just lean back and relax. (The password is "trainboard."

Montana is one of the US northwestern states, bordering on Canada.
