Would someone care to recommend a source for Life-Like GP-18's that have had a DCC decoder installed ? I am not into changing out the 'guts' into a milled frame myself ! [ June 24, 2005, 11:23 AM: Message edited by: GULL ]
Does the Atlas GP7/9 frame fit? I think I read somewhere that it does, and that the gears and gizzards can be switched to the Altas frame without drama. But I'm an old analog Neanderthal, so don't take my word for it. EDIT: Oops! I guess the Atlas geep needs the frame cut too. (At least mine would.) Must have been a different LL/Atlas pair...... .
LT: The Atlas GP-7/9 frame is interchangeable with the LL GP-18's and GP 20's. Unfortunately the Atlas GP-7/9's are not DCC compatible and the frames must be milled to accept a decoder. Stay cool and run steam.....
Gull: If you buy a new Lenz mini gold series decoder( the smallest decoder on the market), you can cut a small slot in the frame under the rear lightboard for the decoder to sit. This is an easy installation. You then cut channels for the wires on the top of the frame. The new Lenz gold mini decoder is 2/3rds the size of the previous smallest decoder on the market. Have fun.... Stay cool and run steam....
