I know its been a little while since I posted in here, I like the new CSS look. The O scale forums looked a little lean so I thought I would post a little info on my utter lack of progress on my layout. . I decided that, while looking neat, the grades involved were just too much for the longer consists I like to see. (The only engine capable of making the grade with 6 HW cars was my Y6b ) Sooooo an Ebay purchase or two later, I managed to get enough Elevated Trestle sections to elevate the outer loop. The elevated portion is almost done now, I also shaved all the bases off my people, so those are ready to be mounted. Everything else has gone no place since last update (about 4 months ago I think). Still no lighting, Switches still have no power, and the Sidings are still dead . Well I'll post up a few pictures after I get things a bit more presentable. My brother in law is due into town in about 2 or 3 weeks and I want to have it finished by then.
At least you are doing something Bill. I'm still working sporadically on my Atlas caboose and scratch built 52' Railgon type gondola. Be sure to post some pictures. Greg
Yay, I got some buildings lit today, and 80% of everything else is back in place after all the work. Looks better than it has in a bit. Not sure I really like the elevated outer loop, but it makes it much easier to run something else on it. Ah well, first layout blues, live, learn, do it again sometime......until then, this is starting to come along decently enough I'll get some picture up in a week or so. PS does anyone know...... I have a couple of lionel lamp posts that were originally molded in an awful green color. I think they were from the fundimensions era, but I couldnt find anything to reference online or on e-bay. I need to know what kind of bulbs these generally took. (2 bulbs per light, Im guessing 6v bulbs?) Also, I have a fundimensions era blue comet passenger car set. Unfortunately, it seems as though there is some type of cardboard or plastic lining on the inside of the car. In most of my cars, this lining has fallen on the light either smothering it entirely, or making it so it only illuminates the bottom 1/8" of window. Is there anyway to take these cars apart so that I might be able to re-affix the lining? TIA for any help on the subject...
Bill- My Lionel days are many years in the past. The only lamp posts I owned, were long before Fundimensions. Ugly, oversized green things. Single bulb. I seem to recall getting replacement bulbs at the local gas station. And they were 12 volters. 6 sounds low to me. The accessory terminal on your transformer likely put out 14-18 volts AC. Also, many Lionel items had some sort of part, or catalog number molded on. Somewhere. Have you looked under the base to see if anything shows? If a number is there, you may have a clue. Boxcab E50
Dont get too excited, its the MTH RailKing version, not exactly what you would call a scale replica, but I must admit, when you have 2 feet of engine hauling 10 feet of HW passenger cars, it sure does look nice, even if not prototypically correct. . I was actually looking for a UP challenger when I bought this, but after getting outbid on E-bay for every Challenger I looked at for a month, I gave up and got the Y6b on the first try.
As requested, some shots from yesterday before some of the detailing and some shots today after some detailing. (no power lines = yesterday, power lines = today) Enjoy!, I'll be post some more in a couple of days.
Is that a gas turbine in the last picture? Looks like O-27 curves? So must be a tight fit going around? Did you ever have a chance to further check those lamp posts? Boxcab E50
RE: the lamps, I did actually remove one of the two (you can see them in the pictures, the silver ones, repainted). They dont say lionel or have a number stamped anyplace that I could see. I seem to recall when I first got them in a box of stuff a couple of years back that they did come in a lionel box...sooooo I dunno Yes thats the first 2 units of a 3 unit MTH RK turbine. I have some issues with the coupler on the fuel tender, so im not currently using it. The inner loop are 0-27 curves. The outer loop is done with 0-42 (027 track). At this point, I still have to wire the switches, and the sidings, mount the people, wire lighting for another 3 or 4 buildings and finish up the power lines.yay! Really trackside views. Can you record with sound? I'd love to hear the tinplate wheel clacking, etc. Sure would bring back some childhood memories. Boxcab E50
