I just received a beautiful Marklin German Crocodile I bought off of Ebay that runs great and I am very happy with it. It was an Xmas present to myself. The seller had wrapped the locomotive in paper cloth and then placed it into the Marklin plastic inner box. I am grateful for this because it was coming from overseas and the locomotive arrived undamaged. But unfortunately the paper cloth absorbed some lube oil from the trucks and there is a very light sheen of oil on the outside painted shell finish. I would think warm water and dish soap would work because its a degreaser. But not sure what potential phosphorous in the dish soap would do to Marklin graphics or paint. So what would be the safest way to clean the oil off without harming the paint and graphics on a Marklin locomotive? Thanks, -Jon
Jon, Avoid alcohol-based cleaners. I haven't had any problems using distilled water and a few drops of dish soap. Mark
