Hello, I see at the roanoke railcam sometimes a local train with covered hoppers and a caboose, leaving in direction to Lynchburg, VA. A few hours later it comes back, shoving the whole train with the caboose in front. Could anyone tell me which destination the local have? thanks Markus PS: excuse my bad english
If they're the small two-bay covered hoppers, that's most likely V82. It serves the Lonestar Cement plant, at the end of the Cloverdale branch.
Today it comes back to Roanoke with: - 5 box cars - 1 highside gondola - 1 tank car - 10 covered hoppers* - 1 GP - 1 SD40-2 and the caboose as way- or controllcar in front of the train. * 3 and 4 bay covered hoppers with round hatches
That's not V82 then... the Roanoke railcam is pointed at the yard throat... if it's on the near main, it's definately going north up the Shenandoah line... the far main could be either east to Lynchburg or south on the Winston-Salem line... the middle main will be east to Lynchburg... so it would help knowing what track it's on. This list should help... http://www.krunk.org/ns-nrv/vadivlocals.shtml
The train yesterday comes on the 3rd track (counting from the front of the cam view) back and entered the middle track unter the pedestrian bridge behind the signal bridge. So it could only be the Lynchburg Line or the Winston Salem ... I searched via google-earth but found nothing related (in my eyes) and sometime the train will be out for about 5 hours.
