I have a 2-10-0 Minitrix steamer (actually I have many Minitrix steamers) and I need a motor for it. Is Minitrix still in business and is there any where in the states to get a motor or does any one know of another motor that will fit with out being much of a problem to install? All so do they make or does anyone know of any traction tires for Mintirix steamers. They are nice running engines but the only problem I have is with wheel slippage.
46U: Doesn't the Mintrix steamer 2-10-0 have two drivers with traction tires. I have a Minitrix 2-10-0, and if I recall two drivers have traction tires. Stay cool and run steam.....
Contact www.eurorailhobbies.com or www.reynaulds.com about parts. Minitrix is still in business. Marklin bought Trix/Minitrix several years ago. Dave
Just looked and you are right the Minitrix 2-10-0 does have traction tires. The 2 rear drivers have them. It is my Minitrix 0-6-0 that does not have traction tires. I am getting my Minitrix and my Atlas mixed up. Do you know of any traction tires for the old Atlas all so?
Thanks all for the help. I all so need a motor for and old Con Cor made by Kato. I have emailed Con Cor but they have never gotten back to me.
The Minitrix 4-6-2 also doesn't have traction tires. It does have rather enormous flanges in compariosn to most steam loco's. To place traction tires on the 4-6-2 and 0-6-0, you have to cut grooves in one set of drivers and find tires to fit the newly machined drivers. It takes planning to do this properly. Stay cool and run steam....
For traction tires that fit most wheel sizes except the big 80 inch driver s of Northerns try Stewart product #1513 traction tires for steam. Kato also sells traction tires for the Mike, which should fit the average steamer that takes traction tires and that is listed among thier replacement part inventory.
Thanks all for the help and input. What I really need to do is start on my bigger layout as the one I have now is way to small but is better then nothing. But with summer coming up I am getting read for train chasing, tourist railroads, railroad museums and so on. Hope to be adding a lot of pictures to my rail image page buy the end of summer.
NWSL has a kit to remotor the Minitrix Pacific, which might work in the Decapod as well. It's listed on this page: http://www.nwsl.com/CatalogPages.htm And Alliance sells some N-scale remotoring kits that might be made to work: http://www.alliancelink.com/alp/newparts.htm I've repowered a Minitrix 4-6-2 and a Minitrix 0-6-0 with motors from MicroLocoMotion. If you email them with what you're trying to do, they'll give pretty good advice. http://www.micro-loco-motion.com Hope this helps. Ray
Welcome to Trainboard, 4cu and Ray H. It's been a long, long time, but I think the Minitrix Pacific (4-6-2) and Hippo (2-10-0) do not share the same motor. I believe MicroLocoMotion is probably the answer for your problems. No affiliation at all--he's just a great source of info and supplies. He will know what you need.
