Does anybody have any information on cabooses used on the QA&P? I understand they only owned about five, and I have one picture of number 46 (I'm guessing early part of the century). But what were the numbers and styles of their other cabooses? What years were they obtained and what paint schemes did they have? Did they stay in service until the line was abandoned, or were some or all of them retired? Did they ever use Frisco cabooses, and if so when did they use them, and was it on a regular basis or only a "special circumstance"? I have the book "The Quanah Route" by Don Hofsommer; it's a great, informative book, but doesn't have any information (or pictures) I'm looking for about cabooses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have that one too. I don't know of any other resources but I will look in my Frisco/Katy Color Guide to see if there is any information in there.

During the last years, pool cabooses from SLSF (BN) were used. There was one QAP caboose left at the end; it was highly personalized by the crew (I remember it had a pressurized softdrink dispenser in it), but it was rarely taken over the road. It stayed parked at the west end of the stockpen pass by the new depot at the wye. Whenever 537 came in from OKC we would use the caboose from it for over the road trips, so that could have been any Frisco or BN wide vision caboose, or sometimes one of those ancient slope cupola jobs from CBQ or GN.

    That's MY kind of caboose!!

Thanks for all the info. Any idea which caboose that was? Also, do you know when the other QAP cabooses would have been retired? For some modeling purposes, I am researching what would have been run in the 40's and 50's. Obviously no BN (or GN or CB&Q), but would Frisco cabooses have been used back then?
