    Pt. 9 --- N Scale DDA35 & B Build...

NOTE: This is not an accurate build of a DDA35. I've tried to 'get close' but at almost 80 don't want to spend a ton of time on this. I need to get back to laying track, adding scenery and finally running a train or two.

    =======================================================

A little regression here with a couple images of the front and rear light boxes that were designed with Fusion 360 and printed with an AnyCubic Photon M3. They are shown on the loco during decoder install on the previous page ( HERE ).

The front light box was designed for two different light compartments. The top for the headlight and number boards and the bottom for a cab light that can be turned on while the loco is stopped. The top passage for the 0402 LED and wiring enters at the left and wraps around to the middle to help align the LED in the middle of the top of the cab for the light there.

The bottom one enters in the center and stops about 1/3 of the way in and then has passages to help spread the light throughout the cab.

The rear light box works to focus the light output straight back to the rear headlight. Both light boxes help to block light from going through the sides and top of the shell.

A fuel tank was needed. One was suppose to of come with the James Trains shell but can't find it and it is for the DD35 not the DDA35 which is a bit longer so probably wouldn't of worked anyway.

Designed one with Fusion 360 off of pictures and not actual measurements so there again this is not a totally accurate build but good enough for me.

Was happy that the tank does snap on and off like most models. The DDA40X's frame has bumps to hold the tank and even though the frame is now shorter I got the bump measurement down good enough that between the bumps on the frame and the dimples inside the tank it snaps on and off.

I'm happy with the looks of it and ….

….. personally like it better than the tank that was on the DDA40X.

Still a ways to go of course....

…... I designed some smaller items and printed them before writing that. The jack pads on this shell aren't in the right place so designed them and a third ladder for this side, a sandbox for each side, flares for the front side ladders. I'll add them on the next page and also try and get my courage up to paint the shell. Oh, also need to design and print hand rails or make some.

If you came into the build here you can go to the start of the build ( HERE ).

(NOTE: Keep in mind that this is N scale and these images if viewed on a computer can be larger than the real thing.)
