I came across a neat bit of history on YouTube yesterday, it's a promotional film shot by the PRR featuring the GG1... looks like it was shot shorty after WWII. There are some interesting scenes including a locomotive wash and a rounded platform that would swing around the nose of the GG for cleaning. The video is on the Ztrains.com homepage... check it out for an historic look back. John Ztrains: Z Scale (1:220) Model Train Layouts
Still one of the most beautiful Engines! Very impressive! Thanks John, that's a good start for Monday work
Great question... had to look this one up. According to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania... Since the GG1s were originally designed to haul passenger cars, it has a steam boiler which burns oil to produce steam to heat the cars. The fireman was responsible for keeping an eye on it. If you watch the movie... at about 2:22 into it you can see a healthy blast of steam coming out of the top of a GG1 in the background. John Ztrains: Z Scale (1:220) Model Train Layouts
