It's been a while since I modeled something in Z scale so after making a circle from Z, through N, through TT, back to Z I decided to work on creating a PRR K4/L1 in Z scale. My goal is to have a shell that can fit on top of existing Marklin/AZL mechanisms. As I already have a shell model in N, and TT scales I scaled it down to Z (so that part was easy). As at the moment I only have a DB BR18 pacific that will be my chassis for the K4 shell. A Marklin Pacific might or might not be a better chassis. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have one. The first "mark one" eye ball test is positive, and the shell seems to match the general dimensions of the mechanism. Since the boiler for K4/L1 were essentially the same once I acquire a mikado class loco I'll work on an L1
Is there any way you could share the stl file. I'd like to try printing the shell with my Photon. If it works I could send you a few. I actually have no interest in making the whole loco, but would just like to see how it prints.
I think I need to acquire a Marklin Pacific for this one so I can avoid cutting off the european front bar from the loco... The other option is to acquire a rokuhan pacific... Once I have the target chassis I will move this forward.
I was able to obtain a bunch of spare chassis for Marklin locos. It looks like the general dimensions are the same for Pacific, Mikado and BR18. Also it appears that the shell seems to fit a Marklin Mikado shell relatively well (length wise). So next steps will be to make it fit more snugly and make sure there is space for the motor.
