    Hi All,
Thought I would post a pic of what I have been up to since the start of the new year.
Main board is now finsihed, and all track is in. I have the two side wings to complete yet but the pier head is already sitting in place. Maximum grade on one part is a staggering 8.5%, but all shays climb it with 6 cars in front.
Should have the control panel up and working by the middle of February, then ballast and paint the track. Thats when the fun will start (SCENERY)

Excellent! It looks as though you have been quite busy. It would take me twice as long just to do that benchwork!

Paul, that is Fantastic!!! You have accomplished SO MUCH in just a few weeks

:D It sure must be nice to have all that time on your hands .... you did say that your wife is CEO of the largest Corporation in the UK, and that you sold all your kids into slavery, right? :D

P.S. What is the dark grey surface (roadbed?) on top of the plywood?

Paul, you must have the largest construction crew anywhere! Are you glueing the track to roadbed? Looks great as always! :D

    Hi Gang,
Thanks for the comments on my new Badger Creek.
Hank, that Grey paint is just a covering I gave the white faced insulation board before I put any track down, it also makes it easier to cut.

Watash my friend I always pin the outside of the track to the insulation, (Never use cork) the reason I pin the outside of the track is if I pin in the Middle, it would. or could, narrow the track gauge slightly.

    Paul,
You may not have heard me go on ad naseum about a "nolix" idea (no helix) and people are always asking me for an example. I like the idea of an open level transition area that isn't a helix but performs the same function. Although your's isn't a nolix exactly, it could very well be as it would be easy to run a track off from the left to another part of the layout (non-existent on yours) which is the upper deck.

I like that the track is as visible as it is in its height gain.

    Paul,

As ususal, your modeling is fantastic! You're motivating me to get some tracklaying done myself! Oops...no room in which to lay track yet. Oh, well, maybe someday soon. Keep up the good work!

Pat, for a couple of years, I got four 3" shelf brackets fastened to a wall in my bedroom, mounted a 1x4 on them and stained it, varnished it, and had a place to run an engine about 6 feet. One straight track, bumpers at both ends. I used alligator clips to one end of the track, and could at least run an engine, a couple of cars, and have some "day-dreaming" time of an evening.

I kept the power pack, wire, and rolling stock in the top drawer of a Chest of Drawers directly under this shelf. It sure beat just "wishing" in frustration. Think about it.

Use one of those scanners to locate two wall studs, and put the three screws into a stud. Sheetrock screws work well, and the tiny hole is easily fixed if you move from there. Lay a strip of cloth over the track when not in use, keeps dust off, so it is always ready to go. :D

(I'm OK, but my spelling finger is getting senile!)

    Watash,

I don't even have room for that! Two of the walls in our bedroom slope upwards, and there are windows on the other two. But thanks for the suggestion. We've had our house on the market for the past year and a half, wanting to move into one somewhat bigger (we've added three children to our family in three years :D ). I keep drawing plans for a larger railroad, but nothing has happened yet. Maybe someday!

AKrrnut, the first shelf rr I saw that gave me the idea, was in a Quanset Hut, screwed to the courragated steel building. He had about 8" above the shelf, and it served to hold after-shave, soap, etc. behind the rails. He kept one engine and a few cars in the top drawer. No heavy details on them to break off, see? He would buy a kit at the commisary, build it when off duty, then mail it home. He spent two years out on Kiska Isle. (My wife says she bets your wife wishes you would BUILD A RAILROAD, D**it!)

Watash, If that's what it takes to get into a bigger house, you bet he can build his own railroad!!! [IMG] Actually, since he didn't get to keep his railroad when we moved he started a small hobby shop instead. Come to think of it that might be a good trade, if he sells the hobby shop, he would have room for a railroad! Hmmm, suggest that to him for me would you please. (Can't wait until he sees this ;) )

Paul, your railroad is fantastic, and I'm just a railroad widow...
