I recently purchased and installed a Kato FL-12 decoder for my N scale Kato Super Chief observation car tail light. I think I installed it properly and if I access it on the ops track as address #3 and reverse the direction it does what it is supposed to do. It also turns on/off with function #0 as it's supposed to. My problem is that I can't get it to reprogram to another address #. I tried both on my program track and on my ops track to change the decoder address to #2100 and it just doesn't take. I am using my MRC Prodigy 2 unit at home. strangely the Prodigy won't read the decoder's address on the program track either, I just know it is factory prorammed as #3. I didn't try a two digit address, are these decoders (from Kato) not four digit capable? Should I try and program it on the clubs Digitrax/Decoder Pro set up? Paul/
I suspected that, I will try and reprogram it to a two digit address when I can set up my test track again, Thanks Rick. Paul/
When I checked the info sheets on-line and that came with the decoder it does say that it can be programmed to addresses 01-9983. I tried again today to programmed it to #21 on my programming track and it took the address. The lights worked properly with the two digit address so I tried again to change the address to #2100 like I wanted, and this time it took the four digit address. The lights seem to be working properly now as well. I don't know what I was doing wrong last night but today it worked. I'm glad that it did because by programming it to #2100 it will have the same address as the lead loco in the consist that will be pulling that train. I wont have to worry about adding an additional loco number to the consist for the tail end car. All's well that ends well, Paul/
