Ok, I took a chance on "that auction site" and bought the following lot of 43 cars: So, how much would have you paid/bid for it? Close up pictures here I need to know if I got ripped off or not - I have a feeling not, but I just need a second opinion. I am still a noob when it comes to value of cars (although I know for a fact I wouldnt pay $1200 for a silly boxcar). All of them are in good-excellent condition, some missing a axle or truck, but all in all the cars look nice - especially the ConCor ones in the upper left corner. As for the locos, I haven't tested them out. [ 11. August 2004, 04:08: Message edited by: nscale_lover ]
Hi, Mike I've been buying a number of freight cars on ebay too these past couple of weeks. Looking over your cars, I recognize a bunch of them and almost bid on some. I'm glad I didn't bid now, because I would've driven the final cost up for you or even deprived you of them. Ya know, we could use a system here by which we can check the bidders' names to see whether we are competing against fellow forumites. Would that be allowed - a Topic that lists our ebay bidder/seller names and which is readily available for reference? Or would that take all the sport out of bidding???
Kisatchie, you know the sellers would hate that! That would kill the market... It is a Great Idea! nsluv, You I think this will be a good experience...you will also get practice in figuring out what everything is, and how much each piece is worth. I think some of that is common in there... That looks to be a decoder in the engine, but I am not for certain. It looks like it has been heavily modified to fit the tender...you would have to find the right person to know if that works, though you might learn yourself...though then the risk of frying is a little higher, at least, in my case!
If it means you get the cars you want, and I get the cars I want... then I'm all for it! About half of these will be resold.... you can email me directly if you're interested in certain ones. I contacted the seller directly and got a buy-it-now price I couldn't pass up... well, I think it was a good price - hence the thread question.
I don't think there is nothing wrong with it myself. I have bought a lot of cars on that site, and sold a lot. I currently have a Wisconsin Central unit coal train up for bid on there right now. I've found a lot of unusual cars on there that I've wanted for a while.
Ha Ha! That gadget is funny! Cut it out, and plug it in the wall, then you can let the bottled up smoke out of it! (dont really do that) It looks like you scored some really neet prizes though. I buys lots of wierd stuff off eBay, and you can't beat the price, as you only bid what you want to pay!
One man's trash is another man's treasure. It only matters to you. If you are satisfied, then that is all that counts. Run them, spruce them up. If you like them, you will buy more. You will have to form your own opinion of them.
I was going to bid on those. But being unemployed again, all I can do is sit back and watch. Enjoy. Will have to go look at those Wisconsin Central coal cars though. That's the system I plan on modeling in the future.
I guess I was asking is if there are any items that I should definately hold on to? I thought the Bachmann boxcar (below) looked liked a collectable... don't see to many of them around I wish I modeled steam, some of them locos loook nice!
I think that if you paid under $100, you got a really good deal! I figure, 43 cars at about $4 ea, comes to $172. Throw in about $30 for the engines, especially if the decoder-equipped 4-8-4 works, or can be made to work easily, and it comes to $200. If you plan on selling some of the cars, that makes the purchase even better. Pat
Thanks AK... thats what I needed to hear. I just didn't know - I usually buy stuff for its use/looks, not for display/value. This lot was mostly bought for the C.C. autoracks (which brings my total up to 17). So far I'm planning on re-selling all the locos, the two 90' (?) boxcars, and all the Bachmann tri-levels. Plus a few things from previous lots. I'll be posting on the yellow page forum this weekend, giving my fellow T.B. pals first shot for buy/barter/trade before it goes up for.... well, you-know-where.
