On the Nene Valley railway close to where I live, they sometimes run demonstration freight trains of preserved stock. In the first picture, the fireman has jumped off the moving locomotive to run ahead and push a button on a post which activates the grade crossing siren and flashing lights. He will then get back onto the locomotive! This saves the train having to stop The grade crossing is the road into the Nene Park area. This is a favourite place for relaxing. There are lakes, river boat trips, picnic areas, pony rides, wildlife sanctuary, lots of footpaths, etc. Our version of the caboose! A Goods Brake Van. [ 28 December 2001: Message edited by: Alan ]
Another freight train on the railway a few years ago was this DB (German) BR64 2-6-2 tank locomotive. [ 28 December 2001: Message edited by: Alan ]
I always enjoy seeing your Nene Valley photos, Alan. Although it is very close by U.S. standards I never seem to get over to your side of the country to visit the railway. Keep them coming. Take care John
