True, the Proto-file update at www.wvrr.ca isn't specifically G scale (I try very hard to avoid 'scale' issues) but there are some new pictures of grain elevators there for your enjoyment. And even education I guess. And the rest of the website has scale stuff anyhow. Enjoy.
I love "prairie skyscrapers." Especially the wooden variety. You'e smart to photograph those you see. Anywhere. Catch them while you can! Boxcab E50
They're an icon. But vanishing none the less. There have been 600+ taken down in Saskatchewan alone over the past 10 - 15 years. At least that is the number I've heard about. Correct me if I'm wrong. Dave
It is a sad sight to see them disappear, I'm going to add one (out of theme on my mountainous layout) simply as a tribute. They are pretty awesome to look at.
Don't you just love how they tower over the layout world. Just like the real thing. Thanks for the photo. Dave
Thanks for posting the link to your site and the link to Grain Elevators Canada you have on site. Many years ago I missed picking up a large framed poster print of a row of these wooden elevators along an overgrown, rusty track. I have not seen similar images until now. Many thanks.
wooden grain elevator Dave, I got a question. On my DAV&P we had a large grain elevator in Cassadaga NY. I’m planning on modeling it but with a cut away so that when you standing in the ile you can see the insides of it. Have you run a crossed any photos of the inside of an old wooden grain elevator ?
Hi There are some on line. A quick look found... http://www.royalalbertamuseum.ca/vexhibit/elevator/skyscrap.htm ...but there are others. The very best interior (and exterior) photos I ever saw were in Wheat Kings by Greg McDonnell. You might give that a try. Dave
