An hour or two in my favourite junction station (about 15 mins from our house), to introduce Matt, Carolyne and Oliver to our trains. Alan, those are interesting photos, thanks. Brigitte is reminiscent of the locomotives I saw when in Paris in 1971. IIRC they were the newest FLC locomotives and assigned to La Mistral, at least on the weekend I was "foaming" at one of the Gares, sadly I forget which one. Also, far worse, I did not have a camera.
Those first photos, of "American" design engines reminds me a bit of both ALCo and GE. They appear to be fair sized. What sort of horsepower do they generate?
Hank, the Brigittes are based on the French CC6500 like this one, seen at Paris Gare d'Austerlitz. Ken, the Reagans are EMD, but do look a bit of GE and Alco! They are 2,200 hp. The crews like them as they are very reliable and capable locomotives.
Alan, good to see you out railfanning, even though there is no steam involved. Were Matt and Carolyne visiting, or have they joined you in your new home country? :tb-biggrin:
Hi Jim, Matt, Carolyne and Oliver are visiting us for Christmas and New Year - two whole weeks! Great to have them here. Next time they come over, we will see if we can join one of the regular steam trips along the very scenic Bochinj route which run from spring to fall.
Nice interesting stuff Alan. Might have to come out there for a long weekend sometime. Do they do a railrover ticket? KEV
When we came over to check out where we would like to live in the country we bought an Interrail pass for the whole country. Excellent value and available on any train. Can only be bought outside of Slovenia so we had to cross into Austria to get it!
