Hopefully yall can give me some answers, but I have a simple 2x4 n scale loop set up for DCC with digitrax zephyr starter set and most of the time it works out fine. However, sometimes only a small section of (less than a foot) track actually works. I do the quarter test on several sections and it doesn't short. Like I said most of the time it works fine but sometimes only a small section will work and after a while everything goes back to normal. I have no idea what is wrong or where to start looking for the problem. I only have a single connection from the power pack to the tracks (no feeders) if that will help. Any advice suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Add a bunch of feeders around you loop.

If you have joiners, they may have corrosion or dirt that prevent good contact from rail to rail. You could try soldering some joiners (or redoing solders if you have already attempted solders), or, as suggested above by Shawn, try a couple more pairs of feeders here and there.
