Am daydreaming, wildly. It's possible that late this summer, I may be in BC. If so, I'd want to check out the former BCR. It's been a while. So, can anyone tell me what radio frequencies they're using these days? Did they keep the old BCR stuff? Or change over to CN? Boxcab E50
I"ll check it out for you; it might be in the Canadian Trackside guide. But the good news is that some one who is helping me with my layout electronically was a "communications guy (radio)" before being laid off after the CN lease of BC Rail for 990 years so he'll know. If you do come up, give me a call and I'll help you out or show you some good railfanning locations if you'd like. Also, the railroad museum in Squamish is right beside the yard that was used by BC Rail; CN is ignoring it. The railroad museum is worth seeing, but it is early stages of being, nothing like the great one is California. However you will enjoy yourself there and get to see the Royal Hudson. If you want some one to drive you around, if you are without car, I'd be happy to do that. I've edited this in; if you come out here and my friend is working, you can have a ride on the bridge of one of our ferries - to Bowen Island. Its only around $7.00 Canadian round trip, the ride is short at 20 minutes approximately, but the location is beautiful. The ferry leaves where I moor my boat so maybe you and anyone else accompanying you can go for a short sail to Gambier Island, Centa Bay for a barbeque. Gambier Island is just behind Bowen Island in Howe Sound (which is a fjord). I forgot to add this link; this is where I moor my boat but is also shows a picture of the ferry I am talking about and a very small crude map of its route to Bowen Island. If you click on the ferry schedule to Bowen you'll see it runs about every half hour. What people do is usually go over around 10:00 AM or there abouts, browse in the 10 stores there, then eat at a restuarant, then come back. ITs a nice way to spend half a day. http://www.sewellsmarina.com/ Here is a link to a web site about Bowen Island. The link initially looks boring, but if you snoop around, you'll see some fun pictures: http://www.bowenisland.com/ Cheers, Rick [ June 11, 2005, 11:42 AM: Message edited by: rsn48 ]
Rick- Thanks for the radio frequency help. Will be interested in whatever you might learn. Travel plans are in the if stage only. A few things need to happen soon, in order for any further thought of a trip this summer. I'm originally from the Puget Sound area. It's been a while since my last serious railfanning to BC. A lot is changed, I'm certain. I've a friend in Bellingham I'd like to say hello. Appreciate the kind offer of meeting and more. Just don't take me sailing! You may never get me back onto the dock! GOOD GRIEF....If a modeler made a module of a scene similar to that one, he/she would be laughed out of the Club for being totally unbelievable. That is one fantastic bit of civil/railway engineering...!!!
Hank- The ratio of scenery to railroad is really something. We need to get one of the Z scale guys interested in building this module. Boxcab E50
