Working on the bridge crossing US 169 on the Port Spur track. So far, I like where this is going even though there will be quite a bit of compression to the scene.

Beams are in place. These were made with Plastruct I-Beams and 1” x 12” N Scale Lumber. I used my saw to cut slots at scale 3’ centers down one side of the beam. The scale 1” x 12” slid right into the groove. I cut them a bit long to start. I used Superglue Gel to seal the top of the cuts and bond the stiffeners in place. After the AC had dried, I trimmed the tops and bottoms of the stiffeners and sanded everything. I primed the sections then came back with aluminum colored spray paint. So far, so good! Thank you for stopping by!

    Dale

The scene is taking shape, we have road going underneath and WATCO crossing above.

A few shots of what I have been up to. With all I have in the works, it feeds my modeling ADD quite well! I have been adding to the scenery on the 169 Highway bridge as well as working on some cars and locomotives. I will post pictures in following posts. First up is SKOL Port spur over Highway 169 at Owasso.

Next up is the crossing at 56th Street North. This location is on the layout because my SKOL train driving friend nailed a dump truck here in 2019. No one was hurt but locomotive 4141 gained the nickname Dump Truck Killer, hence DTK Road.

This is a combination fun post. Part FEF, part what’s been on the workbench and what’s new…..
FEF- Port 022 is hooked on to a couple of gons for Kloeckner Metals scrap pick-up.
What’s new- Tom Holly was so kind to send over a couple of cars to get added to operations at the port. NS 191191 and HI 404 made their debut on the layout this past weekend during our Operations Session for Tulsa Line. I saw several photos being taken of them. HI 404 comes from Tom’s personal railroad on his layout, the Hindsight Industrial Railroad. The cars look great and run great! Thank you again Tom!
Last- imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, WAMX 14427 is my effort to use the method Tom gave me to get that “well seasoned” look of a mature gondola. I like the way it turned out. There will be more on the layout.
That is it for now, have a good weekend everyone!

More crossing installation on the Port Spur track. If you look at Google Maps for Tulsa Oklahoma, you will see US-169 going north to Owasso and further. South of Owasso a couple of miles is SH 266, if you go east on 266 towards the Port you will find where the spur line crosses the highway. In the area it is quite busy with truck traffic, there are several quarry’s there, a land fill and a asphalt plant. The highway was 2 lane and supported all this truck traffic as well as a heavy commuter load at times during the day. In recent years there had been a number of fatality accidents in a short stretch of the highway. About 4 years ago the highway was widened to 4 lanes with a turn bay in the center. The crossing was up graded to pretty much Quiet Crossing specs with the center curd and warnings. Here is the start of the crossing for the layout.
