This has always annoyed me and probably a good percentage of us too. To me it implies 'the wife' as a lower valued human, or that she's a pest who nags at me and frowns on the hobby. Aso there are female MRRers who might not enjoy the term either. I've never heard the term 'the husband' in any sentence anywhere in my life. I certainly wouldn't like to be referred to this way. The woman I marry will be my equal if not superior to me. She'd be my best friend, not my 'the wife'. In a post of mine I'd call her by her name (say, Jane) my wonderful wife; grateful for her existence on every level. "The wife" just sounds so condescending. I know some see it as a kind of humor, like a reverse from what one really thinks of one's wife. If so, then the joke is tired already already..."My wife Jane and I were rerailing some cars yesterday when.......". I think this would be more an appropriate referral to my best friend...........
    Thanks for the consideration,
    Mark (the hobbyist)

TrainBoard is not the place to discuss such opinions.
