I was planning to do some railfanning with some friends from my local RR club . We would like to go down to Deshler OH and would love to get some info on the area in terms of railfanning activities say 50 to 100 mile around. We will becoming from Canada so we will probably cross @ Detroit. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated . We would also like to visit some local RR clubs.
Deshler has a nice little park set up by the junction of the B&O main and another CSX line. 30 miles east of there on Ohio 18 is Fostoria, one of the busiest junctions anywhere. Marion is about 50 miles south of Fostoria and is has a fair amount of traffic. Marion has a fairly active club with a nice HO layout in the station.
Fostoria would be busier than Deshler. There is a model club layout in a building in Deshler, I think in the Historical Society building. Don't know the hours. I'm usually through Deshler every day, and Fostoria about once a week.
I was in Fostoria in the middle of May,I posted some photos here. It definitely seems busy,at least compared to what I'm used to. I thought about going to Deshler, but decided on Fostoria instead.
