Have any of yo tried to put a PK2 GP30 shell on an Athearn GP35 frame? If so, how successful was the match? I know they are very similar to the old Rail Power GP30 sheels when you had to trash an old GP35 frame to get them to fit. Just running numerous possibilities through my head. Thanks guys!

    P2K on Athearn Chassis

Some years ago at a swapmeet I found a Bachmann GP30 body for a dollar. It had been stripped and painted black. I used an Athearn GP35 chassis to power it. The new motor is required for the chassis to fir. The inside of the body was filed a bit where the hood meets the walkway and the cornors of the frame were cut ar a 45 degree angle to clear the steps. The frame was filed at the bolsters also. This is going to be a cuss and fit operation but it went well for me. New mounting pins were added by drilling through the body at the fuel filler andinto the chassis. 2-56X1/4 inch screws were put into the holes from the inside of the well where the motor sits and they engage the drilled out fuel fillers and hold the body to the frame. Handrails are Athearn wire GP35 handrails modified to be correct for the GP30.
The attached photo of BN 2222 is the result.

I did the same thing back in 1988. I'm looking to put a current PK2 GP30 shell on a current Athearn GP35 frame. The frames are quite different now.

I did something similar with a Bachmann GP50 shell on an Athearn GP38-2 frame.
