Wonder if anyone has a picture of a prototype SD 60 w/ lightening stripe on which Atlas is basing its latest release?

    thanks

Posted below are two variation of the wings/lightning stripe scheme on SD60M's. The first has a slightly lower stripe with larger gray area on the long hood, while the second has the stripe at the same height as the SD70M's. Both photos were taken by me, and are featured on John Barnhill's Nor-Cal UP Connection .

I much prefer the lower stripe. Which one is "standard"?

From my observations, the high stripe is the standard. Since there will soon be around 1000 SD70M's running around with the higher stripe, I would expect most if not all later repaints to receive the higher stripe. Having seen both in person, I actually like the higher stripe better. The lower stripe seems to crowd the lettering and cab numbers a little, and also causes the red stripe to dead end on the nose instead of wrapping around the cab above the nose. Either way, it is a nice alternative from the standard UP paint with the straight stripe and no wings.

Of the few repainted SD60M's, I have seen more of them have the low stripes. I think even one of the ex-SP SD70M's has the low stripe. The repainted GP38-2 UP605 has the low stripe also. I'm not sure if the repaints will get the new flag decals, althought the new units will be delivered with the flag.
