Just got the latest Walthers Flyer (Nov. 2009). On page 6 there is a listing for an N Pullman-Standard 72' Baggage Car in Pere Marquette color. Apparently these are part of the "Advance Reservations" program (I can't stand putting in an order for an item that I have not seen or read reviews on). Anyway, $39.98 with December delivery. They also have it in C&O.

Anyone have any insider info on these - or have they already been sent out in advance for review and I just missed it?

    Tim,
Actually in my flyer they are on page five under "New Arrivals". I do have the C&O version. What are you want ing to know about them? I can post pictures if you like. Actually I will anyway soon.looks like the PM colors are identical to the C&O(as it should be) although the stripes are slightly different.

Page 5 shows the HO version (which I'm also interested in) under new arrivals, and page 6 has the N version under Advance Reservations.

The original PM cars were painted blue and VenetianYellow, which is a little more "pale" compared to C&O Federal Yellow - so that's what I'm wondering about. And I'll bet they use the same color yellow on both the C&O and PM versions.

The Walthers car looks like it would work reasonably for the second car of a Pere Marquette train (first car was a mail/baggage). I would like to come up with a reasonable facsimile of the 7 car PM streamliner as it originally appeared in 1946 and ran between Grand Rapids Michigan, through Holland, and to Chicago. I have the E7, but ready to run cars are certainly rare in PM "real" color - actually, I have never seen a version in N.

I have been working on N and HO versions of the later versions of the PM streamliners that were actually made up of cars from the never to run Chessie. I have a combo of cars from Con-Cor and other manufacturers that make up the consist with out too much rework and repainting.

I'm inherently lazy by nature, and over-worked by my primary employer - couple this with battling a long term illness and there just ain't a lot of free time to rework and repaint! So it would really be a welcome sight to see the actual PM color and markings commercially available - but then again, I suppose demand for these has a fairly limited market.

Well, hopefully this means that other PM passenger cars will be available in N scale some day.

I wouldn't worry about pre-ordering from Walthers, Tim, as it seems you can still find their stuff around after it is first released.

C&O version behind new E7 and ConCor passenger car. ConCor yellow is off from the Walthers baggage car and E7.

Wonderful pics!!! Actually, this is what I wanted to see - it looks like the Walthers yellow is better as a stand-in for PM Venetian Yellow - not "pale" enough, but OK. Looks like I better plan on getting these cars as soon as they are released. I sure hope Walthers will continue to offer PM in other future releases.
    Thanks!

I wish they could have put just a little more orange tint in the C&O Pere Marquette paint scheme - it's just a little bit too pale. I've got an old Atlas E7 that I attempted to paint in the Pere Marquette scheme - looks okay I guess...

    Corrugation?

Be aware that Walther's made some questionable decisions about including corrugation on the lightweight equipment intended for the ill-fated Chessie. The D&RGW, which I model, took some of the orders of the C&O's hands, but Walthers released the sleeping car & baggage car without corrugation, which makes them pretty much useless for modeling D&RGW consists. Possibly the C&O removed the corrugation at some point, which would make these cars more prototypical for your purposes. I've heard that the corrugation became a maintenance nightmare as this equipment got older -- Pullman tacked on the corrugation to make the cars look like Budd's, but it was just a superficial covering into which moisture could intrude. --B.
