I watched the first half of this excellent DVD today, The first feature is called "King coal- Powder River Rails and Mines" This was excellent to watch it included BNSF, UP and a few other railroads hauling coal around the powder river basin. It also included a tour of the Black Thunder Mine. Here are some screen shots of the DVD. I will post a review of the second feature during the week.
Paul, Those pictures bring back a lot of memories. I worked for the company that put the surface (elevation and grade) on the powder river basin mainline from Douglas to the Black Thunder Mine in 1979. We worked out of Douglas for the first half, then moved camp as it were to Gillette, Wyo. There is a lot of nothing between, that's why it is the Great American Desert. Dean
Dean, I really enjoyed wathcing the DVD as the scenery and view are pretty spectacular. I'm amazed by the length of trains that run through the basin as well.
