Had occasion to deal with them about an intermittent short in a sound equipped E7. Bob Arledge in service was most receptive to problem and the unit was replaced in minimal time. Couldn't have been more pleased with their response and the conclusion.

Problem is, all my locos without sound are no fun any more. Can't wait for the Santa Fe E8's (actually announced) and the future Santa Fe 4-8-4 (hint, hint, hint).

I found that same problem in my second set of E7's. The issue turned out to be that 2 wheelsets were so narrow in gauge that the ends of the axles were touching causing a short. I've had no more problems since re-gauging all the wheels.

I have had to regauge all the wheels on all except the replacement unit. This did not help with the shorting unit, however. The problem with my shorting unit may have been from a wire at the right side of the front truck that had a portion of the insulation missing. There did not appear to be anything but plastic that the exposed wire would have touched so this may not have caused the problem. I didn't try fixing this lest I do something that would void the warranty. Relying on the warranty was my best bet and the outcome was most satisfactory. It caused me to have good feelings about PCM.
