The 600 series Dash 9s and 700 series Dash 9s have several differences. First of all, they are both Warbonnet, which makes tham similar. The 600 series (600-699) Dash 9s were bought by Santa Fe, and are still found in SF lettering and numbers. The 700 series (700-799) were purchased by BNSF, and they thusly say BNSF on the long hood. The font on the 700s are BNSF's font, while the font on the 600's are standard SF. Also, on the cigar band of the 700s, most say "BNSF." Some, like BNSF 707, still say "Santa Fe" like the 600s. The 600 series Dash 9s have GE's standard 3- window cabs, while the sides of 700s have 4-window version. Also, the Santa Fe 600s have 5 steps leading to the walkways like the Dash 8s, and the 700s have 6 steps, like most other Dash 9s.

And thats why they call me Dash

Well, it took me two hours to digest all that, but after Dashing out and counting rivits, I just had to dash back and agree again that Dash is right again, so I had to dash off this note about all the dashes from Dash! Dash it all, it was still easier in my day, we had a choice of colors, dirt, or black, you guys would have gone nuts running around waving your paint brushes! I can just imagine the the yellow boilers with black polk-a-dots and blue wheels! HooBoy!

I think what i was getting at is the PAINT is the same(with the exception of the words on the long hood end).i know that some of the 700's are painted h2 now.i didn't know if any of the atsf dash 9's got a patch and renumber.

The Santa Fe (600 Series) Dash 9s aren't, and probably will never be, patched. BNSF has chosen to keep them in the 600 series, therefore BNSF has no reason to renumber them. So, to answer your question: No, they arent patched. One has been repainted into Heritage II, but otherwise, no patches!!!!

As far as I can tell, the Dash 9s with Santa Fe on the Cigar Bands seem to be randomly placed. While I don't know the exact reason, I would say that they were extra Cigar Bands with "Santa Fe" on them, and they decided to put them to use!
