In particular I'm looking for sites with info about:
    1. various passenger consists from 1940-1955
    2. diagrams of various seating, sleeping, table, etc arrangements of the various cars

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Morning Sun has a couple of nice books on this subject. You can ck. your LHS or on eBay. They have a website so you can see what your looking for.

Terry Link's Canada Southern web site has a wealth of information about the New York Central.
    http://www.canadasouthern.com/caso/home.htm
Click on "OTHER STUFF", then scroll down to New York Central items and select passenger car topics.
You can spend days researching stuff here.

    Dave,

I have a book "Passenger Equipment Diagrams New York Central System" by Alvin F. Staufer. There is a sticker inside that all rights are now owned by Leonard Buonocore, 14134 West 130th St., Strongsville, Ohio 44136. I have owned the book a long time, so the rights may have changed again. It was evidently privately published and does not include any Library of Congress information.

There are equipment diagrams for equipment purchased from 1892 to 1941.

I have two books on the Twentieth Century Limited, filled with descriptions and photos of the cars on the Ltd., one by Richard J. Cook and the other by Karl R. Zimmerman. Another by Staufer, "Thoroughbreds," about the Hudsons, with a whole section on the Great Steel Fleet. I hesitate to copy and post anything from these copywrited books, but I'm sure they have what you are looking for. :tb-biggrin:

"New York Central's GREAT STEEL FLEET 1948-1967" by Geoffrey H.Doughty
    TLC Publishing Co.

It will give you photos, diagrams, train numbers, car names & numbers and train consists. A very informative book for any passenger train fan.

I should also have mentioned that not every passenger car floor plan is readily available. For example, look for one for the 10-6 sleeper in those publications - I don't think you will find one.
I eventually found it on a Mexican (NdeM) web site. Many of those NYC cars were sold to Mexican Railways and they published the floor plans.

I cannot locate the link just now, but when I find it I will come back and post it here. You may find it useful. The web site is not convenient for navigating, but if you are patient, you can find what you want.

Again, thanks guys, I'm still digging around. I did get into the timetables on the Canadian Southern site, pretty cool stuff looking back at the schedules from when I was a kid in Buffalo and what went on in Rochester where I live now.
Fitz thanks for the welcome, I've actually been a lurker for a while.
