I'm about to paint some styrene (see pic below) Is there any special preparation I need to do? Can I also use aerosol automotive paint ?

I have looked at our local hobby shop for Tamiya spray cans but they do not have to colour I am after.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

Automotive paint would be ok, providing it is not cellulose, as this will attack the styrene. Trouble is they are gloss, when you need a avery flat finish.

Acrylic paint in an airbrush would be best. If you don't have one, try looking for a very cheap spray gun, it would be fine for this type of work. We can get Humbrol ones for just a few pounds, not sure about Oz. They are called air brushes, but are very coarse spray pattern, but good for some things where finesse is not neccessary :D

Paul, give me a yell during next week. I should be able to pop down with the compressor and airbrush.
Grab a couple of bottles of Floquil Concrete or a similar colour in an acrylic like Tamiya. Let me know what you have got so I can bring the correct thinners.
We should be able to get the base coat on and some weathering done.

    Gary.

I'd also like to thank Mike Cannone for inspiring me to build the walls and offering me advice. I would never have attempted to do this without his help.

    Paul,
Nice work! The walls look great! but are in need of some type of color, I would get some type of gray paint in a light shade and spray it and then use some Polly Scale, (Polly S) water based paint and use some "aged concrete" to simulate age with washes od dark and light shades of black in a misted spray and even alittle moss green and green turf to simulate weeds and or growth on it growing up the wall and even down.

At the lower section near the ground I would add some browns and tans in color for mud and even some more turf such as dirt and mud. to show signs of weather, such as rain with splashes. And as much to what you run in motive power I'd have to really heavily weather it dard and black with some slight deterioration from steam being thats mostly what I run... Those walls let you into a complete whole other world ....Alot of possibilities! :D But sure will look good with some weathering effects!

Looking at the amount of wall area you may need 2 more bottles!

Which Tamiya colour did you get? I may have some here I may not be using for some time. I do have other shades of grey that can be used as washes to age to concrete, as suggested.
